Background and Qualifications
View my education, accreditations and background experience
University:
My B.A. degree from Concordia in Montreal featured a 'continuation' in economics and philosophy rounded out by the core subjects of a business administration degree which I included by taking evening courses after graduation.
Professionally: I have attained my CIM, FCSI, CFP and EPC designations.
CIM is the Canadian Investment Manager qualification granted by the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI). The CIM curriculum included the Professional Financial Planning course of the CSI and extensive courses pertaining to Personal Investment Management .
FCSI is the designation Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute which is the highest achievement recognized by the Institute and is awarded to those who "have fulfilled the most rigorous requirements of education, experience, and ethical conduct".
CFP denotes attainment of the Certified Financial Planner qualification awarded by the Financial Planners Standards Council attesting to Professional Proficiency in the Financial Planning field.
EPC To better appreciate the values and needs of seniors, I have followed the curriculum leading to the designation of "Elder Planning Counselor". With this added dimension, my service to Elders can be more complete in recognition of their lives and circumstances of both aging and fulfillment of their desired potentials.
Insurance Level II I have passed the qualifying examination and am duly licensed to act as an Independent Agent for Life and Sickness and Accident Insurance. The course material was concentrated on the proper application of Life Insurance to individual and small business Financial Planning.
My Career Progression I began my financial services career with a major Canadian bank progressing to Branch Administration and subsequently into District Personnel. I was rated as being within the top 5% of male employees at the time. Learning to relate well with people and developing good interactive work habits were the principal benefits of my banking experience.
New responsibilities in Fund Management advanced from marketing to dealers, research analysis, investment management on to becoming president of two small mutual funds responsible for all aspects of their operation. This experience gave me in-depth exposure and understanding of the investment skills needed to achieve success in the financial markets.
But I yearned to become involved again with the two
most satisfying aspects of my past experience. These were the pursuit of investment knowledge and analytical skills, together with direct one-on-one service to individuals that I enjoyed so much from my banking days. This led naturally to my current role as Investment Advisor and Financial Planner in the service of individual investors.

The Nature of my Clients
My clients, who for the most part are professional persons or elders in retirement, approach the responsibility of managing their investments in a mature sensible fashion with realistic expectations for satisfactory results that meet their objectives.
In general our investment management relationship functions in three effective fashions according to client preference...
1) Reliables: There are those who rely entirely on my specific recommendations as chosen to be most suitable for them individually. These choices are made from a list of securities I have provided and have selected from the research of professional analysts or by my own reference to corporate literature. My role in securing agreement to purchase is to explain the nature of the recommendation, my outlook for its future behaviour, its function within their portfolio and any particular risk apparent to me. Above all I attempt to be sensitive to any indication of discomfort with any item recommended. I will never proceed to purchase or sell without being entirely secure I have my client's confidence in agreeing to do so.
2) Analysts: There are those who do rely on my recommendation list to make their own selections from. For these persons I will provide research references and links to relevant information from corporate websites. After their own investigation with my assistance we will usually decide between alternatives together. These clients are often more sophisticated and knowledgeable regarding investments preferring to be an integral part of the selection process. It is not unusual for them to suggest items not noted by me and which quite often prove to be a preferred choice with my endorsement.
3) Independents: There are also a few who while showing a respectful interest in my recommendation list rely almost exclusively on their own sources for investment choices and frequently will engage my thoughts regarding the merits of their selection; and, in deciding upon a suitable price for purchase or sale. These individuals are generally experienced and knowledgeable regarding investment assessment. They do not rely on 'tips' or 'hearsay' but rather are keen students of the market and stock selection.
