Guide to The Visual Market Status: Several years ago I developed a program that incorporated a number of indicators to determine the market trend and its status within that trend. These indicators measured such things as momentum ( rate of change ), price strength relative to another index, extension above or below an average and other measurements helping to judge trend direction and status.
Depicting the Energy Level
One manner to portray the results of these measurements in a clear fashion is to liken price progression to a person's energy level during a working day. Price strength is observed on a daily short term and medium term basis as well as over short and longer periods on a weekly basis. Understandably, short term measurements tend to lead those of longer duration and tend to be more sensitive to change on the 'Energy Clock'.
Venerable Coppick Curve
As well, I am presenting a rendition of the classic 'Coppick Curve' constructed on a daily and weekly basis. In essence it measures the strength or weakness of the market on a rate of change basis referred to as ' market momentum'. I have also plotted the constructs for the indicator which illustrate the sensitivity and lead aspects of shorter term measurements. This indicator together with the Energy Clock and my daily and weekly Candlestick portrayals should give you a reasonably reliable fix on the market from the perspective of technical analysis.
