ON THE NATURE OF MY SERVICE TO INVESTORS
I approach the responsibility of making recommendations to my clients in a consultative manner as I respect their intelligence and value their thoughts. This is the essence of our successful relationship.
There are two essentials for a good experience which I endeavour to provide. These are concern for Investor Comfort and the Resources I draw upon for our consideration. Let's look at these for a moment.
Investor Comfort depends on its own two essentials, the essential of the suitability of each investment for the person and the essential of continuing communication with each other.
Good communication begins with a thorough understanding of the task at hand. This calls for an open and clear exchange of initial information concerning your circumstances and my service capability in general terms.
With this understanding, to get us of to a sound beginning to our working relationship we will need to gather some
initial input which I will assist you with.
We will have to have a proper understanding of your current financial situation in specific terms and how
you'd like to enhance it to provide for your objectives in both the
long and short term. In gaining a clear understanding of these objectives, it will be worthwhile for us to work out a financial forecast and accompanying financial plan including retirement and possibly estate planing too.
It will be very important to understand your attitude toward risk, as this directly
influences the nature and structure of the portfolio we come to design and
maintain together
In light of the first two considerations of objectives and risk, we'll arrive at an appropriate asset mix
of selected securities, or mutual funds if preferred, offering an attractively high yield and those selected for their
capital appreciation potential. This will enable us to establish some realistic
performance targets as to income and capital gain expectations. We'll refer to this model as our long term 'Strategic Asset Allocation'. Once established, it is important we concur on a suitable 'Management Style' for on going administration of the portfolio that you will be comfortable with.
('Strategic Asset Allocation' and 'Management Styles' are surveyed on my 'Considering Investment Styles' page which follows this page.)
When we come to implement our strategy, we'll give good
consideration to market conditions which may in fact cause us to temporarily
adjust the long-term asset mix we've determined, as I do not consider it responsibly prudent to proceed without regard to the prevailing market situation.
As we proceed in managing the portfolio, we'll confer regularly; and particularly
so, at important market junctures which will very often require action. We will
always have a plan of action. Even if it means to do nothing for a while according to the investment style we have determined as most acceptable for you.
I will always be able to give you a report on how we are doing and to
suggest what our expectations might be on an item by item basis, including the
portfolio in its own right.
Resources: A large portion of my business is carried out in the fixed income
sector as, a goodly portion of my clientele is composed of conservative investors and senior people requiring a secure income from their investment portfolio.
In our planning process, I will be able to elaborate on the several fixed income products I have found most suitable to each role within the sector. ( Many of these are described briefly under Fixed Income on my Financial Products page with a relative risk assessment given under 'Conservative High Income' on my Investment Styles page. )
The capital appreciation potential available from carefully selected equities is an
important aspect too. In selecting suitable candidates for purchase I employ a careful screening process which combines my own experience in technical analysis* with the fundamental analysis from various sources available to me. In addition I have instant access to the financial sites of The World Wide Web for specialized information and insight. ( My stock selection procedure is outlined on my List Construction page. )
*I am also able to bring to bear my own 20 years of research and practical
experience in the field of technical analysis (the study of price trends and
investment timing techniques for both bonds and stocks). I apply this discipline
to appraise the price action of each security and the sector to which it belongs.
In my work I use a number of computer programs including several of my own
design to help me perform the critical initial screening as well as to enhance my
own judgement and interpretive techniques in attaining suitable suggestions. ( For more on this area of analysis, please refer to my page on Technical Analysis and also to Visual Market Status on my Perspectives Page.)
Having the tools and know how to use them can be a great
advantage.
I will be happy to demonstrate many of these resources for you when we meet. I'd like to be able to share my specialized input with you as part of our important task of intelligent investment
decision making together.
To Summarize: I've mentioned...The consultative approach I favour...The screening
process I employ...My know how in the
area of trend analysis and timing techniques...The respect I have for an
investor's own viewpoint, financial situation and objectives; and, my concern that
you know at all times exactly where you are with you're account's performance,
and asset mix within the context of your financial plan and the financial markets' overall situation and outlook..
This comprehensive portfolio design approach in combination with your financial, retirement, and estate planning needs combine to provide an integrated service that I am sure you will be well pleased with.
